Unofficial Austin Aztex Weblog
Update: Never mind.
Saturday I published an open letter to MLS Commissioner Don Garber. After leaving it up for a day and a half, I decided to withdraw it. It was an argument against admitting Orlando City into MLS as an expansion team, in the wake of Garber’s visit there last week. It rehashed the club’s move from Austin to Orlando, with side helpings of rehydrated drama and angst, and a serving of accusations that boiled down essentially to hearsay.
To continue the food metaphor, it was an attempt to make a whole meal out of sour grapes.
I don’t like what Rawlins did in 2010, or how he did it. I think the shoddy way it was handled caused way more damage to Austin’s growing but fragile soccer scene than it needed to. And I was apparently wrong in thinking that I’d be over it by now. But what I wrote this weekend was unnecessary, and doesn’t help Austin’s growing-again soccer scene, either. I’m sure Mr. Garber knows as much as he needs or cares to about what happened.
Bygones, be bygones.
